Wynter is coming: The Pitmen sign commanding centre-back from Halesowen Town

We’re delighted to confirm the signing of experienced defender Ryan Wynter – another statement addition to the squad as we build towards the 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old centre-half arrives as one of the most consistent and respected defenders at Step 3, having most recently captained Halesowen Town. His non-league career includes spells at Stafford Rangers and Chasetown, with earlier experience at Stoke City during his teenage years.

Ryan’s leadership, physical presence and deep understanding of the game make him a natural fit for what we’re putting together – both for the upcoming Northern Premier League and potentially beyond.

Manager Gavin Hurren said: “Ryan’s been one of the most consistent and commanding defenders at Step 3 in recent years – and for me, he’s more than capable of playing Step 2 comfortably.

“He was a leader and fan favourite at Halesowen, and when we knew he was available, we moved quickly. He’s a local lad, knows this level inside out, and understands what this club means to people.

“We had to fight off competition from clubs above to get it done, but I’m absolutely delighted we did. He’s strong, athletic, and brings the kind of quality and character we want in the dressing room. He ticks every box.”

Having played league football since the age of 19, Ryan joins the club from Halesowen Town where he wore the armband. Known for his no-nonsense defending and reliability at the back, he believes this squad is built for success and is eager to get going.

Ryan Wynter said: “The club is making huge moves, and I can’t wait to be a part of it. Our job is to bring success on the pitch, and I know with the team that has been put together, along with the support behind us, we can make that happen.”

He added: “I’ve played for some big clubs at this level, and I take pride in how I conduct myself on the pitch. I’ll wear the Hednesford badge with pride and do my job – giving those in front of me the confidence to go and win games.”

Welcome to the Pitmen, Ryan.
