Pitmen make major midfield move with Freeman arrival

We’re thrilled to welcome former Premier League and Wales international Kieron Freeman to Hednesford Town Football Club.

New signing Kieron Freeman with Pitmen boss Gavin Hurren

Kieron, aged 33, joins us with an incredible level of experience, having played at the highest levels of the game. His career has taken him through the Football League and the Premier League, with over 250 senior appearances at clubs including Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Sheffield United, Portsmouth and Swansea City.

He was part of the Sheffield United squad that earned promotion to the Premier League and has also been called up to the senior Wales squad – adding real pedigree to our midfield options.

Kieron is a composed, experienced player who has operated in several roles across his career but will now take up a key position in the centre of the pitch as we prepare for the new season.

Manager Gavin Hurren said: “Kieron has had an exceptional career and is a player I’ve admired for a long time. I first spotted him properly when we played against a PFA XI in pre-season, and he immediately stood out – fit, technical, controlled, and always driving the game.

“He’s a fantastic character, with experience at the very top, and I think fans will love him. He’s exactly the type of player who will help set standards in the dressing room and drive us forward. I’m over the moon we’ve got this one done.”

After spending time at Keys Park and speaking with Gav, Kieron made his commitment official. He’s stayed in touch with former teammate Chris Hussey and was quickly drawn to the energy and ambition building at the club.

Kieron Freeman said: “After speaking to Chris Hussey and seeing what’s being built here, I knew I wanted to be part of it. I’ve had some great moments in my career – getting promoted to the Premier League, being involved with the Wales senior team – and now it’s about bringing that experience and enthusiasm to a club that wants to win, and if the gaffer wants to push for that again, I’m 100% behind it. Now it’s all sorted, I can focus on the bigger picture.”

We’re delighted to add Kieron to the group and can’t wait to see him in action in a Pitmen shirt.

Welcome to Keys Park, Kieron.
