THE PITMEN
Although it’s August Bank Holiday it was Good Friday last week when Hednesford picked up their first win of the season and extended their unbeaten run to three games.
After going behind The Pitmen showed great character to come back and win the game with goals for either Jamie Morgan or George Langston (depending who you ask) and Dave Abimbola.
The victory moved them temporarily up to 14th place in the league table although they slipped to 16th after Bedford Town and Marine both won on Saturday.
They now have five points from five games, scoring eight goals but conceding 10. Dale Gorman limped out of the action just before half time and time will tell if he joins Joel Taylor, Aaron Jarvis, Jay Fitzmartin, Niall Maher and Jacob Gwilt on the sidelines.
THE OPPOSITION
Spennymoor finished 2025/26 in 10th position in the National League North table with 68 points from 46 games, five points away from the final play-off spot.
Their leading scorer was Glen Taylor with 22 and he has over 200 goals for the club including two so far this season, both in the 2-1 win over 10 man Merthyr Town, the club’s only win so far to go with a 1-1 draw at Morecambe, a 1-4 home defeat against Oxford City and two away losses at Scarborough and Bedford Town, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.
This sequence of results leaves The Moors in 21st place with four points from five games and a GD of -7. They are two points above last placed AFC Telford United and a point in front of Darlington and Radcliffe.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS
Hednesford’s only previous visit to the Brewery Field was in the 2016/17 season in the Northern Premier League when they fell to a 2-4 defeat. Vinnie Mukendi scored both Pitmen goals in front of 519 spectators.
MATCHDAY DETAILS
Spennymoor play at the 4,300 capacity Brewery Field ground which was originally owned by the Tower Brewery. They have played there since 1904, first as United and then as Town from 2005. The record attendance is 2,670 for a Northern League Division One game against Darlington in 2013.
Admission is £15 Adults (18+), £10 Concessions (60+), £5 Juniors (under 18) at the turnstiles which open at 12.30pm, cash or card or online via the Spennymoor website for £16 Adults, £10 concessions, £11 Public Services/Students and £6 Juniors. The match is not segregated and although there is no parking at the ground, there is some street parking available and free parking at St Charles Primary School which is situated past the ground on the right.
Inside the ground there is the Moors Bar and the Neil Adams Fanzone at the side of the Main Stand where you can also find the Chicken Ting food outlet. There is a special Bank Holiday offer with £1 off a pint up until 2pm. A printed Matchday programme is available at £3.
