It’s more midweek County Cup action for Hednesford Town on Wednesday 15th January when they make the short journey to Bentley in Walsall where they will play Darlaston Town (1874) in the quarter final of the Walsall Senior Cup.
Darlaston play at the same step 4 level as The Pitmen in the Northern Premier Midland Division and are in eighth place in the league table with 35 points from 21 games. At home they have won six league games and lost three to AFC Rushden & Diamonds (1-2), Racing Club Warwick (0-2) and Corby Town (1-4). Away from home they have played twelve games, winning four, drawing five and losing three. Harborough Town and Cleethorpes Town ended their interest in the FA Cup and FA Trophy respectively, both winning at Darlaston.
Darlaston haven’t played since their 1-2 defeat at Sporting Khalsa on Boxing Day while in that time Hednesford have won three league games and knocked Kidsgrove Athletic out of the Staffs Senior
Cup after a penalty shootout, putting them in third place in the current form table with 13 points from their last six games. In the first round of the competition Hednesford won 5-0 at Wolverhampton Casuals thanks to an Omar Holness hat-trick and goals from Rob Stevenson and Abdulrasaq Alamu-Tajudeen in front of 175 spectators while Darlaston beat Romulus 2-1 at home, Tyler Bruck and Ashley Fallon scoring. The crowd was 97. Darlaston’s leading scorers are James Rowland who has nine in all competitions and
Kieron Cook who has seven, all in the league. Hednesford are expected to give some of the Development squad more first team experience although all three new signings Tony Breeden, Chris Hussey and Niall Watson are eligible. Jake Jervis and Rob Stevenson will still be missing while Dan Trickett-Smith is working towards full fitness.
