On Saturday 29th March Hednesford Town entertain Trafford in the Northern Premier League West Division with just six games left until the end of the season. Hednesford consolidated their second place in the table following last Saturday’s 4-0 win over City of Liverpool and extended their unbeaten league run to 14 games, consisting of 11 wins and three draws, scoring 26 goals and conceding five, in fact, they have conceded just one goal in their last eight games. Of those 26 goals scored, Dan Trickett-Smith, Dom McHale, Jack Bearne, Nathan Blissett and Akheem Rose have notched three each which means Trickett-Smith and McHale are on 11 league goals for the season while Jack Bearne is on nine.
Trafford’s leading scorer is Rio Clegg with 16 which makes him the league’s second highest scorer, just one behind Clitheroe’s Veron Parny. Trafford are in 10th place in the league table with 53 points from 36 games, some 16 behind Hednesford. The majority of those points have come on their travels, 32 from nine wins and five draws, their only defeats coming at Clitheroe (1-3), Nantwich Town (0-6), Kidsgrove Athletic (0-1), and Atherton Collieries (0-4). At home they have amassed 21 points from six wins, three draws and nine defeats, one defeat coming at the hands of The Pitmen back in November in Gavin Hurren’s first game in charge. Jake Jervis opened the scoring on 15 minutes with Matty Morgan equalising after 73, only for Dan Trickett-Smith to net the winer eight minutes later.
Gavin Hurren remembers the game well. ”My first real experience of what managing this football club is about came away at Trafford – seeing hundreds of Pitmen fans standing in the driving rain, singing their hearts out, is an image that has stayed with me. That level of passion and support is something I’ll never forget”. Hurren is expecting Jake Jervis and Joe Doyle-Charles to be available after coming off against City of Liverpool while Dan Sparkes is edging towards fitness.
Kick off on Saturday is at the usual time of 3pm with gates opening at 12.30pm. Admission will be £11 adults, £8 concessions/ disabled with carer, £3 10-18, free for U10s but all under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be bought via the Fanbase app or by cash/card at the appropriate turnstile.
On Sunday 30th March Hednesford Town Ladies are at home to Newcastle Town in a Division One North league game. Admission is £3 adults and £1 concessions. Kick off is at 2pm.
