Hednesford Town 7-1 Bromsgrove Sporting

What a performance from the girls on Sunday in our 7–1 victory over Bromsgrove Sporting at Keys Park. After what’s been a mixed start to the season, it was fantastic to see everything we’ve been working on in training really come to life on the pitch.

We got off to a solid start and were rewarded with goals from two set plays – something we’ve been focusing on a lot recently, so it’s brilliant to see the players taking that on board. The timing of our second goal, scored by Remaya Osbourne just before half time, was perfect and gave us real momentum going into the break.

At half-time we spoke about the importance of starting strong because we knew Bromsgrove would come out fighting. The girls took that message on brilliantly, scoring three times in the first ten minutes of the second half to really take control of the game.

Special mention must go to Leigh Dugmore and Dami Onafowokan, who both grabbed hat-tricks – Dami doing so at just 17 years old, which is hugely impressive and shows the exciting talent we have coming through.

Beyond the goals, what pleased me most was the way we regained possession and smothered Bromsgrove whenever they tried to get on the ball. The only disappointment was conceding a penalty late on, which denied us our first clean sheet of the season. Still, overall, it was a fantastic team performance and one that gives us a lot of confidence moving forward.

We now look ahead to the next round of the FA Cup, where we’ll travel to Edgar Street to face Hereford on Sunday 5th October. Before that, we return to league action this week at home against Shrewsbury – so come down, get behind the girls, and be our 12th player!
