Sunday saw us fall to a narrow 1–0 defeat at home against a very well-established Shrewsbury Town side, who are pushing hard for the title this season. I can’t hide my disappointment for the girls, because the result didn’t truly reflect the shift they put in from the first to the last whistle.
We were disciplined, organised, and at times had to dig deep and suffer without the ball, but we also created some excellent chances of our own. Right at the death, a header on the final whistle looked destined for the back of the net – on another day, it absolutely would have been the equaliser we deserved.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. We conceded from an unfortunate counter-attack, and despite pushing hard, we couldn’t quite find that goal to level it up. The stats and data back up how close and competitive the game really was, but sometimes football can be cruel.
What I want to stress is how proud the players should be. Their work rate, their togetherness, and their dogged determination were there for everyone to see. Performances like that show the character of this group, and if we keep applying ourselves in that way, the results will follow.
We now turn our attention to an exciting challenge this coming Sunday – an FA Cup tie away at Edgar Street against Hereford. The magic of the cup is something special, and the girls can’t wait to get out there and give it everything once again.
