Hednesford Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Aaron Hayden.
The 29-year-old centre-back joins the Pitmen after spending the last two seasons with National League side Carlisle United, in his second spell with The Cumbrians.
Between those two spells, Aaron had three seasons with Wrexham and was part of the back-to-back promotion winning squads that saw The Reds go from the National League to EFL League One. He was also named as part of the 2021-22 National League Team of the Season.
His career began at Chelsea’s academy, before becoming a scholar at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Director of Football, Andrew Reed said: “We’ve been tracking Aaron for some time and he is a signing that we’re incredibly excited about. When a player of his calibre becomes available, it’s an opportunity you have to pursue. He has proven himself at the highest level of non-league football and in the Football League, and he brings a wealth of experience, leadership and quality to our squad.
We want players who are driven by success rather than comfort, and Aaron fits that profile perfectly. His professionalism and winning mentality will raise standards every day, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the football club.”
Chairman Craig Gwilt added: “We’re absolutely delighted to get this deal done. Aaron is a massive coup for the club and not only shows the ambition of the club but also how far the club has come.
“He is a proven winner, with the experience and mentality he showed during his time at Wrexham, and to bring someone of his quality and character to Keys Park is a real statement for the football club.
“I’m excited for our supporters to see him in a Hednesford shirt. This is another big step in what we’re trying to build here, and I’d like to thank Kelvin, Andrew and everyone involved for helping make it happen.”
