Saturday 1st February will see two of the Northern Premier League West Division’s form sides meet when Hednesford Town entertain Witton Albion at Keys Park.
Both teams are unbeaten in the league in 2025 with Hednesford having won three and drawn two and Witton winning three and drawing one. Infact, you have to go back to December 10th to find Witton’s last defeat, a 1-2 reversal at Hanley Town. This is one of seven games that Witton have lost on their travels, the others being at Stalybridge Celtic (0-3), Avro (0-4), Wythenshawe Town (1-4), Mossley (0-1), Chasetown (1-2) and Kidsgrove Athletic (0-4). They have also drawn one game 1-1 at Wythenshawe and won five. At home they have won seven, drawn two and lost four which gives them a total of 39 points from 26 matches and 10th place in the league table compared to Hednesford’s fourth place with 44 points from 27 games.
Witton’s leading scorer is Joe Duckworth with eight in all competitions, however he has since moved on to Stalybridge where he has scored another four goals. Just behind him is Reece Daly who is on a three month loan from Chester with seven and James Hooper who has five. Hednesford’s leading scorer in all competitions is Manny Duku who has 19, he is followed by Dom McHale with 16. Dan Trickett-Smith and Jack Bearne both have 11.
Elliott Johnson will face a late fitness test alongside Omar Holness, Dan Sparkes and Sion Spence while Jake Jervis, Jack Rose and Rob Stevenson continue to be long term absentees.
Pitmen Manager Gavin Hurren is expecting a difficult game: “Witton come into this match in great form and will present a tough test. They are a side with similar ambitions to ourselves and they’re looking upwards in the table, so we know we’ll have to be at our best to get the result we want”.
Kick off on Saturday is at the usual time of 3pm with gates opening at 12.30pm. Admission will be £11 adults, £8 concessions/ disabled with carer, £3 10-18, free for U10s but all under 16s must be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets can be bought via the Fanbase app or by cash/card at the appropriate turnstile.
On Sunday Hednesford Ladies take a break from league action when they have a home Challenge Cup semi-final against Port Vale. Kick off will be at 2pm with admission at £3 adults, £1 concessions.
