Hednesford Town Ladies 1 – 0 Walsall FC Women

A really pleasing afternoon for us and a strong performance in our 1–0 win over Walsall in the League Cup.

I thought we were dominant in the first half. We created four or five really good chances, starting as early as 11 minutes, where we just couldn’t quite find the finish. But the breakthrough came on 20 minutes – a brilliant run from Madison Farley, showing real determination and quality, and Maisy Sinclair was there to finish it off. It was a fantastic goal and fully deserved.

Our two young strikers were outstanding. They caused Walsall’s defence all sorts of problems, and they couldn’t cope with them at times. The only disappointment from that first half is that we didn’t add to the scoreline, because our performance deserved to be more comfortable.

At halftime, Walsall made some changes which meant we had to adapt, and it became a different kind of game. There were spells where we were pinned in, but defensively we were incredibly disciplined with a few changes in the back line. The girls worked their socks off for the full 90 minutes, and that commitment really showed.

We still created a few more chances in the second half, but their goalkeeper was outstanding and kept them in the game.

Overall, it’s a really, really pleasing win and, for me, some of the best football we’ve played all season.

We now look ahead to the quarter-finals where we’ll face Rugby Town at home at Keys Park next Sunday. We had nearly 200 supporters with us this weekend and it made a huge difference – it really geed the team on. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible to support the girls again.
