Second Placed Hednesford Town hosted 19th placed Morpeth Town at Keys Park as the Pitmen strived to continue their push for promotion off the back of Monday’s massive win at FC United of Manchester.
The Pitmen started in brilliant fashion as they would find themselves ahead in the opening seven minutes. Following a number of Morpeth corners, Chris Hussey cleared the ball towards Montel Gibson, who held the ball up and found Jake Jervis, allowing him to set the ball back to Omari Sterling-James on the edge of the box who drove his effort into the bottom left corner.
The hosts could have grabbed themselves a second mere minutes later as Gibson prodded the ball into the left channel as Jermaine Hylton found himself in behind the defence; though he dragged his effort just wide. However, they wouldn’t have to wait long to double their advantage. In the 24th minute, Chris Hussey launched a free kick into the Morpeth Town area which fell to Jervis who found his effort cleared off the line, though the clearance only fell as far as Sterling-James who produced a spectacular half-volleyed drive into the bottom left hand corner.
The Pitmen continued to dominate as in the 33rd minute, Sterling-James swept the ball out wide to Hylton who cut inside from the left and struck towards goal, though it was gathered comfortably by Dan Langley.

The second half began in similar fashion as the Pitmen continued to control possession. In the 47th minute George Williams swung a cross into the area towards Gibson who headed over.
Kelvin Davis’ men remained relentless in search of a third. In the 57th minute Jermaine Hylton threaded a ball towards Jake Jervis whose effort was saved by the legs of Langley and was hooked clear.
In the 65th minute, Hussey hit a cross towards goal which was tipped wide by Langley and just avoided the head of Montel Gibson. However, they would soon be rewarded for their tenacity as Sterling-James plucked the ball out of the sky brilliantly and threaded the ball to Jervis who unselfishly squared the ball to Gibson allowing him to slot the ball into the corner.
Things went from bad to worse for the Highwaymen as Langley would need to be withdrawn and forward Nic Bollado would find himself deputising in between the sticks. And it wouldn’t be long before he would be picking the ball out of his net as Gibson slipped the ball through to Sterling-James who placed his effort past Bollado to grab his hattrick and cement an emphatic victory for the hosts.
