It was a frustrating day at the office for us, and one where our performance didn’t quite reach the standards we’ve set over the past few weeks or reflect the results we’ve been picking up. We struggled to get to grips with Lye Town physically, and ultimately that proved to be our downfall. Both goals came from crosses into the box where we didn’t defend our areas well enough and lost key aerial duels.
Conceding the second goal just 30 seconds before the half-time whistle was a real blow and made the task even tougher going into the break. It took the wind out of us and made it difficult to reset with the momentum we needed. In the second half, Lye were excellent in how they managed the game. They controlled the tempo well, limited our opportunities, and effectively prevented us from building any momentum to mount a comeback.
Full credit to them – they remain unbeaten for a reason, and their game plan has clearly been effective throughout the season. For us, it’s now about taking the lessons from Sunday back onto the training pitch this week, learning from where we fell short, and responding in the right way. We’ll regroup, refocus, and look to put things right as we head into a tough away fixture against Alvechurch on Sunday.
