Port Vale Women 1 – 0 Hednesford Town Ladies

I was really disappointed with the result away at Port Vale Women, especially because I felt we created enough chances to win the game. We had three or four really good opportunities and on another day we probably put the game to bed, but unfortunately we just couldn’t find that finishing touch.

The pitch was definitely a leveller and it made it difficult for us to play the kind of football we want to play. There wasn’t a lot of football played on the ground and it became more of a battle. The game ended up being won and lost on second balls and, ultimately, on the one opportunity that Port Vale managed to take.

I can’t fault the effort from the girls because they worked incredibly hard throughout the game, but I do think we struggled at times to impose ourselves and show our full potential in those conditions.

One real positive was KP coming into goal. She did really, really well and handled everything that came her way, so it was really pleasing to see that performance from her. Our two centre-halves were also outstanding and put in a really solid shift defensively.

It’s obviously frustrating because we know we’re capable of more, but that’s football sometimes. Now the focus turns to our next game away at Leek Town Ladies this week, where we’ll be looking to put things right and bounce back with a strong performance.
