Hednesford Town Ladies 2 – 0 Rugby Town Women

We are really pleased with the performance and the result from Sunday. To come away with a 2-0 win at home in a League Cup quarter-final is exactly what we set out to do, and I thought the players delivered that really well.

We managed to get a goal in either half, which was important for us. It meant we could build a bit of control in the game rather than chasing it at any point, and I felt that helped us stick to what we wanted to do.

Credit to Rugby Town, because they gave us a really good run for our money and matched us at times. They made things difficult, and there were spells where we had to be patient and disciplined. But overall, I thought we showed lots and lots of quality on the ball, and we stayed true to our game plan throughout.

We were really clear before the game about what we wanted to achieve, both in and out of possession, and I think the players executed that well. We didn’t get drawn away from it, we stayed focused, and we made sure the outcome was a positive one.

I’m especially pleased with the goal scorers Dolcie Sims and Jess Booker both scoring from full-back positions was fantastic to see. It shows we’re finding goals from different areas of the pitch and not just relying on our strikers, which is something we’ve been working on. When you can add that kind of threat from elsewhere, it makes us a much stronger side.

Now our attention turns to the semi-final, where we’ll be away at Chasetown. The date is still to be confirmed, but it’s something we’re really looking forward to. It’s another big game for us, and one we’ll prepare for properly.

We’d absolutely love to see our fans and supporters there. They’ve been brilliant for us – our 12th man – and we’re consistently getting gates of over 100 now, which is fantastic to see. That support really drives the players on.

The girls are performing really, really well at the moment, and more importantly, they’re doing it consistently. That’s exactly what you want to see going into the back end of the season, and long may it continue.
