THE PITMEN
After coming off the back of an opening day 1-1 draw away to Port Vale, the women’s team are looking forward to their first home game of the season.
Courtesy of a goal by Ellie Edwards Port Vale took the half-time lead last Sunday but a goal from Hazzana Parnell in the second half earnt the first point of the season.
Speaking on the game manager Laura Hodgkiss said: “On Sunday our football and some of the passages of play that we created were outstanding.”
Looking ahead to this weekend’s first home fixture Laura said: “Exciting times back again at Keys Park, with all the stadium developments and everything’s that’s going on with HTFC, for the women to be part of that and alongside of it, it’s massive for us.”
THE OPPOSITION
Coventry Sphinx suffered a 3-1 away defeat to newly promoted Knowle Women on the first game of the season.
Despite a first half goal for the Sphinx’s by Sandra Dziedzic leaving the score 1-1 at the break. A hattrick by Knowle’s Darcy Garner proved to be the deciding factor on the opening day.
Last season the opposition finished 9th in the table with a total of 26 points and comfortably survived relegation.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS
Last season the clubs met a total of three times last season, with a tie in the league cup final in May resulted in a 2-0 victory for Hednesford after a brace from Leigh Dugmore meant silverware for the women.
Whereas league games where shared as Coventry Sphinx won 3-2 at home despite two goals on the day by last week’s scorer Hazzana Parness.
Hednesford then returned the favour winning 2-0 later in the season where yet another double was completed but by Ria Elsmore.
