It was great to be back at home for the second week in a row, and to have 110 supporters down at Keys Park backing the girls was absolutely fantastic. The support really does make a difference, and the players responded in the best possible way with a really pleasing performance.
I was delighted with the standard of football we produced. The girls played with confidence, moved the ball well, and showed real composure throughout. A lot of the things we’ve been working on on the training pitch came to fruition on matchday, and it was really encouraging to see that translate into our play. On another day we could – and probably should – have had a few more goals to reward our performance levels.
We took the lead around the half-hour mark when Leigh Dugmore entered the stage and made an instant impact. With her very first touch she produced a superb finish to put us 1–0 up, which was no more than we deserved at that point.
We utilised the whole squad and made changes throughout the game, with every player playing a massive part in the win. The togetherness and effort from everyone was excellent and exactly what you want to see as a manager.
In the second half, Leigh Dugmore continued to be a real nuisance for Burton. After some extremely well-worked football, she was slipped through by Ria Elsmore and we were awarded a penalty. Leigh stepped up confidently and smashed the ball into the top corner to make it 2–0 and effectively seal the result.
Overall, it was a convincing and professional performance that gives us real momentum and belief going forward in the league. We’ll continue to strive for the best possible finish, and now our focus turns to a tough trip away to Solihull next week.
